It’s still not enough for Kratos to be forgiven by the Olympians. A new god of War is needed, and Athena refuses to let him die again, arguing that he is wrong. As he unwillingly accepts the offer, he harbors the notion that he will be able to drown his grief in the only thing he now knows: uncontrolled bloodshed.

Since Kratos hasn’t destroyed the source of the Ambrosia, he returns to the road he went to save his daughter to exterminate the Ambrosia once and for all.

If anything, the trip made him more aware of how much he’d lost because of the gods as well as his arrogance. After the credits roll in God of War III, Kratos’ body is no longer lying on the ruins of Olympus.

We now know that this was only the beginning of Kratos’ new story. With the death of his second wife, his new face with a new family has taken a turn for the worse. It was Atreus’ mission to carry the goddess’s ashes to Mount Olympus.

Unlike Ares, Kratos’ fixation with approbation would not be a problem for the gods. By leading Sparta to conquer Greece, the Spartans found peace in their Olympians’ hatred. When Athena tells Kratos that the Olympians can’t take much more, he ignores her and attacks the city of Rhodes nevertheless.

Zeus kills Kratos with the Blade of Olympus during the thrash. Kratos is being dragged into the underworld by the clutches of Hades, but the Titans telepathically summon him and help him survive.

This group’s commander tells how Zeus took power by killing or imprisoning Olympians who were a predecessor to the Titans. In this instance, Kratos’ desire for vengeance is shared by others.

:small_red_triangle_down: Blade of Olympus

After finding the sisters of Fate, he must return to the exact moment of his death and take the blade of Olympus from them. Two of the sisters of Fate approach Kratos at the end of his journey through Greek mythology and his personal history.

He is sent back in time to prevent Kratos from defeating Ares by one of them. He kills the duo, then the ultimate sister, who controls the threads of all lives, to prevent this paradox.

He returns to the exact moment that Zeus kills him, snatching the Sword of Olympus and nearly conquering the ruler of the gods with his sword. Athena sacrifices herself to disclose to Kratos in death that she and he are indeed related to saving her father.

:small_red_triangle_down: Ghost of Sparta

Even though Kratos is Zeus’s son, he is steadfast in his pursuit of vengeance, and as the Olympians plot their retaliation, the Ghost of Sparta travels back in time to bring the Titans to the current age.

They begin ascending Mount Olympus in a fight to end all wars, seconds after the previous game. Poseidon is the first to thrash Kratos, but Kratos defeat him, and the seas descend onto the Greek mainland.

Zeus unleashes a lightning attack on Kratos and Gaia after they’ve climbed Mount Olympus. After letting Kratos fall to the underworld, she sets her sights on Zeus and vows retribution on her people for having used him.

Kratos then meets Athena’s spirit, who offers to assist him for unknown reasons, and he accepts her help. It’s only because of her strength that he’s able to rip through the gods of the underworld like Cronos and Hades with ease.

As he ends their lives one by one, the earth is plunged into darkness, epidemics abound, and the worlds of the living and the expire begin to meet in unexpected ways.

Ghost of Sparta

:small_red_triangle_down: Pandora’s Box

The only way he can unlock Pandora’s Box is to uncover and destroy the Chain of Balance, which binds Olympus and the underworld. He will stop at nothing to get the Box back. To liberate the Box from its restraints, you must perform these actions.

Despite Zeus’ best efforts, Kratos eventually subdues him and proceeds to open the box, only to find that it is empty. Gaia reappears, and the three engage in combat, resulting in Gaia being mortally wounded.

Last-ditch, Zeus uses Kratos’ sadness and pain as a weapon against him, but the spirit of Pandora brings him back to reality, granting the war god one final wish: to silence Zeus once and for all. Because she’s realized she was incorrect about Pandora’s Box, Athena appears to congratulate Kratos after the world is ripped apart.

To vanquish Ares, Kratos thought he had absorbed the evils contained inside it, but in reality, the sins had swallowed the gods, explaining their actions and the dreadful consequences of their deaths. Indeed, Kratos had absorbed and preserved Athena’s stored strength of hope.

Pandora's Box

:beginner: Summary

Kratos understands that the evil of selfishness has infected her and decides to impale himself to provide hope to the remaining human beings. This leaves everything in ruins, and Kratos’ death appears to be an act of defiance to the gods. Or so it seems.

:diamond_shape_with_a_dot_inside: Before The God of War

Kratos was stripped of his innocence and molded into a ruthless warrior as a young Spartan. In the PSP title Ghost of Sparta, Ares and Athena disclose that his brother, Deimos, was kidnapped by the gods as a child and taken away from him.

:small_red_triangle_down: Crimson Tattoos

Kratos had crimson tattoos in the style of his brother’s unusual birthmarks as a tribute to him. Years later, Kratos is raised to the position of the chieftain and marries Lysandra, giving birth to their daughter Calliope in the comic series.

She was born with sickness and because of a Spartan rule mandating the slaying of weak people. Kratos embarks on an urgent search for the Ambrosia of Asclepius, a potent healing remedy. He doesn’t realize that Olympians are wagering on who can get Ambrosia by picking potential humans.

It just so happens that the Barbarian Alrik is one of these champions. Both Kratos and Atreus are defeated, but Kratos can return home in time to save his daughter’s life.

:small_red_triangle_down: Barbarian’s Spell

Hades has other intentions for Alrik than to elevate him to the rank of renowned captain based on his accomplishments. The Barbarian wipes out Kratos’ army and a god summoned from the underworld at some point in the future.

For Alrik, it was a matter of sheer numbers, but before he could bring down Kratos, the Spartan pleaded with Ares to save him. As a result, Ares permanently attaches Kratos’ Blades of Chaos to his arms, which he then uses to sever Alrik’s head from his body.

:small_red_triangle_down: Kratos Target

When Kratos is given the task of destroying an Athena-dedicated community, Ares tells him to kill everyone - guilty or not - to bring glory to the gods and gain Zeus’ favor.

After slaughtering its inhabitants, he realizes that Ares had tricked him into killing his own family by placing them there. Despite Ares’ belief that familial connections would no longer constrain his ideal warrior, he was wrong.

After killing his family, Kratos has left a husk of a warrior, and Ares isn’t going to let it. The mortal swore an oath of blood to Ares, and the Furies aren’t lenient when it comes to violating blood oaths.

:small_red_triangle_down: Prehistoric Punishment

These primordial beings record the gods’ vows, and those who break them are punished forever. As a result, they let Ares’ heinous crime of misleading the Spartan go unpunished.
