All recent Star Wars films, including Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is ahead of this. The teaser trailer for that film, like Avatar 2, was initially shown in theatres.

YouTube and social media views for Avatar 2 do not include those who saw its preview before Doctor Strange opened to $187 million domestically and nearly $450 million internationally.
Other teaser comparisons include Universal’s F9.

The Fast Saga received 202.7 million online views in its first 24 hours, Black Widow, 116.8 million, Incredible 2, 113.1 million, and Rise Skywalker, which received 112.4 million.

In Cameron’s follow-up, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana star, released in theatres on December 16. The film follows Jake Sully and Navi Neytiri, played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.

Development

Cameron stated in 2006 that if Avatar2 was a success, he hoped to make two sequels. In 2010, he stated that the film’s widespread success confirmed that he would do so. Sequel releases were initially planned for December 2014 and 2015, including some of the first film’s story arcs for future story arcs. Once “The novel is nailed down,” Cameron intended to begin filming the sequels back-to-back.

He said that the sequels would broaden the cosmos by investigating more Polyphemus moons. The first sequel would focus on Pandora’s ocean and more of the rainforest, with the film being captured at the Mariana Trench’s bottom utilizing a deepwater submersible.

Cameron revealed in 2011 that he was just getting started on designing Pandora’s ocean ecology and the other worlds that will be included in the plot. Although the storyline will continue the environmental subject from the first film, it will be less “Strident” because the film will focus on entertainment.

In December 2009, the Jake and Neytiri characters would be continued in the sequels. In 2011, Cameron hinted that the humans would return as the story’s adversaries. He expressed his plan to shoot the sequels at a higher frame rate than the industry standard of 24 frames per order to create a more realistic sense of reality.

Cameron revealed in 2013 that the sequels would be shot in New Zealand, with performance capture scheduled for 2014. A deal with the New Zealand government stipulated that at least one global premiere be hosted in Wellington and that at least NZ$500 million (about US$410 million at December 2013 exchange rates) be spent on production activities in the country, including live-action filming and visual effects.

Tax rebates for filmmaking in New Zealand have been increased from 15% to 20%, with 25% available to overseas companies in select situations and 40% for New Zealand productions, according to the country’s government (as defined by section 18 of the New Zealand Film Commission Act 1978).
Cameron first hinted at a possible third sequel in 2012, which was confirmed the following year. When Avatar 2 was originally scheduled for 2015, the production was delayed until 2014, and the film was released in December 2016, followed by the two sequels in 2017 and 2018.

Finally, in February 2016, it was announced that filming for the sequels would begin in New Zealand in April 2016. Cameron said at Cinema in April 2016 that there will be four Avatar2 sequels, all of which will be shot simultaneously. The four Avatar2 sequels have a combined budget of $1 billion (each picture costing $250 million).

Both Russell Carpenter and Aashrita Kamath, the art director for all four sequels to True Lies, are new members of the team.
Performance Freediving International founder Kirk Crack served as a free-diving instructor for the underwater scenes’ cast and crew members. In addition, the film will feature several creatures from the theme park attraction Avatar2 Flight of Passage.

Writing

Cameron claimed in 2012 that the sequels would be written as “independent storylines with an overarching arc inclusive of the first picture,” With the second film ending with a clear conclusion rather than a cliffhanger to the next film.

Josh Friedman will write the first film, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver will write the second, and Shane Salerno will write the third.

Cameron stated in April 2014 that he intended to finish the (then) three scripts in six weeks and that all three sequels would be in production at the same time, with release dates ranging from December 2016 to 2018.

There are three sequels he’s working on now, and although Friedman has revealed that he initially worked with all three writers on all three, he said: "I didn’t decide which film each writer would work on until the very last minute.

If I gave them their screenplays ahead of time, I knew they’d tune out whenever we talked about the other movie."As a result, the trilogy functions as a single story told throughout three movies. This creative technique inspired by director James Cameron’s time in the Dark Angel writing room.

Because the scripting took longer than intended, Cameron had to push back the release of the films until 2015.

For over year and half of the year, we’ve been designing. Almost all people, locales, and creatures are [set]." On February 11, 2017, Cameron revealed that he had finished writing all four sequels. He estimated that the screenplays took four years to write overall in a November 26 interview the same year.

If you liked the first film, you’d probably enjoy them, and if you didn’t, you’d probably dislike them. Suppose you liked it at the time but afterwards said you disliked it. In that case, you’ll probably enjoy these ".

Later, he likened the sequels to The Godfather franchise, referring to them as "A family narrative that spans generations. It’s a continuation of the same characters’ stories of what happens when soldiers who are willing to commit suicide by jumping off cliffs onto the backs of large orange Toruks grow up and have children.

The children are now the agents of change. It’s fascinating."
In a February 2019 interview, Cameron said that Tuk was eight years old. The film would have a scene between Jake and Neytiri from Tuk’s point of view: "A three-page argument scene between Jake and Neytiri, including a marital conflict, is extremely important to the plot.

" Lang revealed in a December 2019 interview that his character was always planned to return in the sequels, as Cameron told him “that Quaritch had a future” while filming the first film.

Casting

In January 2010, it was announced that Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana had signed on to reprise their roles in the sequels. In addition, Cameron confirmed that Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang would return later that year despite their characters’ deaths.

Cameron also claimed that Weaver’s character Grace Augustine would be alive in all three sequels (the fourth was not planned).

On the other hand, Weaver revealed in March 2015 that she would portray a new role in the sequel. In addition, Michelle Rodriguez announced in September 2015 that, unlike Weaver and Lang, whose characters perished in the first movie, she would not return for Avatar 2.

In 2017, several new cast members were announced, including Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald, who was confirmed to return from the original film.

In addition, Oona Chaplin’s character, Varang, was characterized as “A dynamic and lively pivotal character who spans the entire tale of the sequels,” and Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, the chief of the Navi reef people tribe Metkayina, was among the newly announced entrants. Eiza Gonzá■■■ also tried out for the role of Chaplin.

They were all able to hold their breath between two and four minutes, including seven-year-old Trinity Bliss, who trained for six months for underwater scenes filmed in performance capture. They were “All perfectly capable of acting underwater, very calmly while holding their breath.”

In the 1st week of
October 2017, it was announced that Kate Winslet, who appeared in James Cameron’s 1997 film Titanic, had joined for the cast of Avatar two and presumably its sequels.

Even though Ronal’s origins were unknown at the time, Cameron explained that she was “part of the Sea People, or reef people,” the following month. Because she insisted on performing every movement of her character, like the children in the film, Winslet had to learn to free-dive to make Avatar 2’s Navi clan her first performance capture or motion capture role.

He sent her the scripts shortly after. Winslet had been notoriously hesitant about working with Cameron again because of the complicated situations he puts his actors in for their scenes.

She said her part was “very modest compared to the extended production,” With only one month of filming, but she was also “A vital character in the ongoing tale.”

Dileep Rao’s comeback as Dr Max Patel was confirmed on January 25, 2018. A year before, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell and Michelle Yeoh were introduced as live-action characters in the cast. Vin Diesel said in early April 2019 that he would be joining the cast of the Avatar2 sequels.

However, it remained unclear which ones he would be in. Edward Norton claimed in October 2019 that he had turned down a role in Avatar 2 because he only wanted to play a Navi, which his suggested character was not.

This resulted in Thewlis being widely touted as a member of the Avatar 2 cast; however, in June 2020, he clarified that the reports were incorrect and that he would be a part of Avatar 3 to 5.

In 1st week of October 2017, it was announced that Kate Winslet, who appeared in James Cameron’s 1997 film Titanic, had joined the cast of Avatar 2 and presumably its sequels.

“The greatest moments of my career journey,” says Cameron, of her time on Titanic as “One of the most fulfilling experiences” for her character Ronal and her co-star Kate Hudson.

When Cameron revealed to the press a month later that Ronal was a Metkayina’s Navi tribe member, Winslet was overjoyed. This was her first performance capture or motion capture role, and she had to learn to free-dive just like the rest of the children cast to be a part of Avatar 2, which was shot in the exact location as the first film.

He sent her the scripts shortly after. Winslet had been notoriously hesitant about working with Cameron again because of the complicated situations he puts his actors in for their scenes. David Thewlis announced his involvement in the franchise in April 2018, claiming that he would appear in three of the four sequels, later revealing that his character was a Navi in January 2020.

Visual effects

"It’s never been done before, and it’s tough since our motion capture system requires markers captured with hundreds of cameras like most motion capture systems.

The issue with water is not the component below the surface, but the interaction between the air and the water, which creates a moving mirror. The dots and markers are reflected in the moving mirror, creating a slew of fake markers.

Avatar 2 visual effect water issue

It’s similar to a fighter plane dropping a load of trash to confuse a missile’s radar system. It was a challenge to overcome the issue of thousands of false targets, but we did so.

Adding water to every difficulty makes it ten times more difficult.

Cameron discusses how he combined underwater cinematography with a motion capture system.

On July 31, 2017, Weta Digital announced that production on the Avatar2 sequels had begun. The film will have a lot of underwater scenes, which were shot underwater with the cast using performance capture.

Motion capture technology that combined underwater cinematography and performance capture had never been to seek before, so the team worked for over a year and a half to develop it.

In November 2015, Landau claimed Avatar 2 would include several significant technological advancements over the previous film.

Much of the lighting work on the virtual production stage could be done during production rather than in post-production, and the crew could employ two lightweight HD helmet cameras to film the actors’ face performance, similar to Alita: Battle Angel, which Cameron produced and co-wrote.

Sequels

When Avatar 3 began filming in New Zealand on September 25, 2017, the first of four planned Avatar2 sequels, The Way of Water, was released. Worthington, Saldana, Lang, Weaver, Pounder, Curtis, Ribisi, Moore, Rao, Gerald, and Chaplin are among the cast members of Avatar 3.

There have been no plans for Avatar 4 or 5, even though the latter two sequels have been given the green light. “They’re doing 2 and 3, they’re going to see if people go and watch them, and then they’ll produce 4 and 5,” Said Avatar 3 cast member David Thewlis in February 2018.

On the other hand, Weaver revealed in November 2018 that she was “busy doing Avatar 4 and 5,” which some media sites interpreted as evidence that the latter two sequels had begun production after the first two sequels had concluded principal photography.

In January 2019, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 are in development but have not been officially greenlit, despite The Walt Disney Company’s proposed acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

In February 2019, producer Landau suggested that Iger had been misconstrued. He revealed that Avatar 4 and 5 have been “not only [greenlit],” but that a third of Avatar 4 has already been shot.

Music

Avatar composer James Horner, who died tragically in a plane crash in June 2015, was set to compose music for the film franchise. It was rumoured that Simon Franglen, a record producer who worked with Horner, would be writing the film’s soundtrack in December 2019.

On August 20, 2021, Landau acknowledged his involvement with the project and linked it with the upcoming Avatar2 sequels. In addition to the original Franglen themes, Horner’s soundtrack will be incorporated into the film.
