Except for Gaara, who is now the Kazekage, the Akatsuki captures and extracts seven of the Tailed Beasts, killing all of the hosts. Meanwhile, Sasuke betrays Orochimaru and seeks vengeance on Itachi.
After Itachi dies in combat, Sasuke learns from Tobi, the founder of the Akatsuki, that Itachi had been ordered by Konoha’s superiors to murder his clan to avert a coup; he agreed on the condition that Sasuke is spared.
As a result of this revelation, Sasuke joins the Akatsuki to exact vengeance on Konoha. As Konoha ninjas defeat several Akatsuki members, Nagato, the Akatsuki figurehead leader, kills Jiraiya and destroys Konoha, but Naruto defeats and redeems him, earning the respect and admiration of the village.

As Sasuke learns more about Konoha’s history, including the events that led to his clan’s demise, he decides to defend the village and reunites with Naruto and Sakura to foil Madara and Obito’s schemes.
Madara’s body, on the other hand, is taken over by Kaguya Otsutsuki, an ancient princess with plans to conquer all of humanity. Obito, now reformed, makes the ultimate sacrifice to assist Team 7 in stopping her.
Madara dies as soon as Kaguya is sealed. Sasuke takes advantage of the situation and seizes control of all the Tailed Beasts, revealing his intention to abolish the village structure. After almost killing each other in the last battle, Sasuke confesses defeat and changes after Naruto confronts him to discourage him from his objective.
Kakashi becomes the Sixth Hokage after the war and forgives Sasuke for his crimes. Years later, Kakashi retires, and Naruto marries Hinata Hyuga and ascends to the position of Seventh Hokage, raising the next generation.
