It is safe to say that “hit up” could mean that you want to go somewhere. During that decade, many people (not just drug dealers) used one-way pagers to communicate with others. “Connection” is probably not the right name, however, because these [devices](https://howtodiscuss.com/t/device/13933) could not receive text-based messages. Instead, they got phone numbers. Someone can call (“beep”) your pager on their phone. Your pager would light up, make an audible “beep,” and the paired phone number would appear on the screen so you could call that person again. “Hit up” has grown out of direct paging rules. The rappers used this phrase in hundreds of popular songs, and it came to have a variety of meanings. Now, the phrase is closely associated with the cell phone, that is, the modern [version](https://howtodiscuss.com/t/version/13970) of the pagers. ![The History of HMU](https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/whatdoeshmumean-121025070303-phpapp02-thumbnail-4.jpg?cb=1351148618) The history of little abbreviation, HMU, is not as interesting as all of that. HME captures [Transponder](https://howtodiscuss.com/t/transponder/23078) signals from aircraft response to interrogation from radar stations. Signals contain data from modes S, C and A transmissions. HME determines the geometric length and position of the aircraft by comparing the [reception](https://howtodiscuss.com/t/reception/10683) time of SSR transponder signals at different receiver locations. This information is transmitted to TMU as a single structure per second. The data was compiled by TMU to create a track record of the plane passing through the cover area. Track details are then combined with weather data to assess the total value of Total Vertical Error (TVE). Once completed, the monitoring process produces a study of TVE (Total Vertical Error), AAD (Assigned Altitude Deviation) and ASE (Altimeter System Error) for each measured aircraft. In a European context, Height Monitoring results are automatically transferred to EUR RMA at EUROCONTROL headquarters, Brussels where they are verified and delivered to aircraft and authorized operators. ### 🔹 GPS-Based Height Monitoring Unit (GMU) A GPS-based Monitoring Unit (GMU) is a mobile system for recording the geometric length of an aircraft using Global Positioning System (GPS) signals. Estimated altitude data is analyzed after flight measured with weather data to determine the actual altitude of the Flight level assigned at that time. JASMA does not have GMUs. ### 🔹 ADS-B Height Monitoring System AAMA, China RMA and MAAR use the ADS-B Height Monitoring System (AHMS) to monitor long-term performance.
