This is very concerning as most of the paper towels on the market contain toxic chemicals that can be harmful to our health. Chlorine and formaldehyde are two main chemicals found in most paper towels. Formaldehyde is also a known carcinogen.
At home I only use Scott’s blue Walmart towels … a 2-pack roll costs a couple of dollars and I buy a few every month. Economical, practical and versatile. They’re not lint-free, but they’re good enough for most jobs (I wouldn’t use them on glass or paint if I had a choice between newspapers or MF napkins).
Paper towels that aren’t full of grease or chemicals break quickly in the compost bin. They are considered to be a brown or high-carbon material and can replace leaves if they run out of leaves. A paper towel with soil, water or plant food is welcome in the compost bin.

Never wash or dry work towels in a regular or commercial washer and dryer. These chemicals are flammable. In addition, washing machines are discharged into the ground or sewer and grease and oil pollute the water supply.
Paper towels are absolutely NOT lint free. They’re cheap and lint-free, great for applying grease or cleaning processors and stuff with acetone.
