What is Verizon Battery Backup for?
The optical network terminal (ONT) has a separate battery backup unit (BBU). With a fully charged 12-volt battery installed in the BBU, you have up to 8 hours of backup power for basic voice services, including emergency calls.
Do I need the FiOS backup battery this way?
The battery is only needed to power the emergency power telephone service. If you disconnect the 110VAC BBU and no functioning battery is inserted, ONT will be disabled and all FiOS services will be terminated. In your case, unplug the battery from the BBU, but don't unplug the BBU from the wall.
Will Verizon also replace my battery?
The battery cannot be replaced in a Verizon store. One thing you can try is this. Use the battery until the device turns off.
