Telecommunications,

What is Telecommunications?

Informally known as telecom. Remote communication by phone, email, etc.

A system that allows the exchange of information (data) between a terminal and a computer. Transmission is via telephone lines or satellite microwaves. Telecommunications requires the conversion of data stored in a computer into magnetic (computer) code on tapes or discs into audio code to be transmitted over telephone lines. This process should be at the receiving end. The telephone code (bell code) has to be converted back to the computer code so that it can be understood by the receiving unit. Data can be transferred from one computer to another or from one terminal to another. Computer code is converted to sound code (or vice versa) by a device called a modem (modulator-demodulator), which is capable of encoding or encoding depending on the direction of the data stream. Two modem units are required, one in each, to convert the computer code into a beep code for transmission and the other to translate the beep code into a computer code so that it can be understood at the receiving end.

Meanings of Telecommunications

  1. Long distance communication via cable, telegraph, telephone or radio.

Sentences of Telecommunications
