Search Engines

A program that finds and identifies items in a database that are associated with keywords or search terms.

Search engines refer to a software system designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Search engine results are displayed when you perform a search in a web browser. For example, the user types Starbucks in their browser search. Search engine results are displayed on the pages and provide the user with Starbuck results. The information can be a combination of web pages, images, and other types of files. The information is indexed and when a search is performed, the relevant information is retrieved by keyword to display the results. Google, Bing and Yahoo are the most popular search engines.
