Payment may come in the form of salary, insurance policies or government programs. California is the first state in the US to enact a Paid Family Leave program funded through contributions of workers; the state of Washington followed with a PFL plan and also New Jersey. Also called Family Disability Leave, Paid Parental Leave, Family Leave Insurance.
