Mental illness is a serious issue in today’s world. People often take it lightly because it is not considered normal to just pay a hundred bucks to someone just for listening to your problem; also this illness is not visible to the man observing you, only the patient suffer through an immeasurable trauma, that is why people often target the victim of mental illness by saying that he is lying and escaping from his responsibilities. This makes the patient very uncomfortable and that is why he decides not to share his problem with anyone. This loneliness further adds to his psychological disorder and makes him feel unconscious when someone is around him, even with his family members.
A person can be mentally ill at any age, whether he is a child or a grown up man. Mostly nowadays people take too much stress because of their unhealthy lifestyle and constant daily work load. This is seriously hurting their minds and their personalities. Due to depression, people get tired very much, they don’t work seriously not because they don’t too but they are seriously internally disturbed and the fact that they can’t tell anyone makes them sadder. If someone knows a patient very closely then he can immediately spot out changes in the behavior of patient.
What causes mental health problems?
It’s a very good question to ask, you might have noticed that the concept of mental health has only arose in the past few decades, it does not mean that people from the past were immune to this disease rather they had the tendency and time to look after them. In my opinion, modern men and women have no time for themselves, all they do is work, eat, sleep, and repeat. They do not have any time to appreciate the nature or appreciate their surroundings. They do not have time to spend with their families, they do not do anything productive in their leisure time nor do they go for outing. In my opinion this laziness towards taking care of you is the reason behind the increasing mental stress and illness. Human body is not a working machine, it is not designed to just work all day and sleep at the night to just recharge yourself, it is bound to move.
Social Media a reason of mental illness!
In my opinion social media has increased the risk of you getting mental illness. If you just scroll down social media in your leisure time then there is a high possibility that you will come across a post of someone sharing their success on social media, this will make you depress and you will feel like you are unlucky and that God has gifted you less compared to them and then you start comparing yourself with them even though you know that there is no comparison between both of you. In this regard, Islam, God clearly gives us a verdict that whenever you feel that you are depressed just because you hustled for something and you did not get it, and then start counting your blessings. In this way you will be less thankful to the God.
Money does not buy happiness!
People nowadays think that happiness is directly related to wealth meaning if someone is a billionaire then he will definitely be happy. This is very untrue. Mental illness is a state of mind, it does not depend on how wealthy you are or what is your financial status. It just comes with time. Mental illness comes when suddenly you start to feel very lonely around you or your daily routine has become very boring. You start to have negative thoughts in your mind when it is empty or when you are not doing anything. That’s why the best way to get through mental illness is to keep yourself busy in things you like.
Developed countries and their concern about mental issues!
If you say that the reason for mental illness is money and developed countries are happy just because they have a higher gross domestic products then you are wrong because japan, despite being one of the richest countries has the highest suicide rate and it even has a forest in which people just go to kill themselves. Even the Great Britain now has minister of loneliness because according to the recent survey majority of their population is suffering from loneliness and depression. Old age homes also contribute towards it as people often leave their parents and grandparents. The elder ones on being left out feel very depressed and lonely. They feel a sudden shift in their environment and find it difficult to adjust in their new home. Fortunately in South Asian countries, there is no concept of old age homes that’s why the ratio of mental illness in these countries is very low.
Summary
Till now we know that mental illness is not related to one’s health or financial status but it is just because people have started to feel very lonely or they are bored of their daily routine. In developed countries, the ratio of mental illness is very high because people leave their elders there and never meet them again, this is very saddening as a society and it completely destroys the social fabric of the society. Social media is also a reason of mental illness because people get jealous by seeing others sharing their success on the platform.
