## What’s mysterious in this accident?

Well you might be thinking that it was just an accident and why it is so mysterious. The mystery behind this is that when in 1980 “The Empire Strike back” was released. In the very first scene of the movie Lucas Skywalker’s face got scars by the attack of the monster Wampa. This scene gave a little description of the scars that were on Mark Hamill’s face due to the surgery. People predicted that the scene was specially written to explain Mark Hamill’s scars. This mystery has not been solved yet because of the following statements of the director and cast that does not seem to give the same answer to the people’s prediction.

### Director George Lucas’s statement:

George Lucas was the director of the film and when he was asked whether the first scene was written specially to describe Mark Hamill’s new face and scars he refused and said that the scene justified the new look of Mark but was not especially written because of the accident. Following are the exact words of George Lucas.
“ At the end of shooting for “A new hope” he had been in a car accident and I knew that he was going to look a little different than he was in the first movie, but my feeling was sometime had past, they have been in the rebellion fighting, that kind of thing, so the change was justifiable. There is a scene in the film where Mark gets beat up by the monster, which helps even more, but that was not really the meaning of why we wrote the monster in the beginning. Actually we needed something to make the film suspenseful at the beginning while the empire is looking for them.” George Lucas said in Blue ray commentary of “ The empire strikes back.”

### Carrie Fisher’s statement:

Carrie Fisher who played the role of princess Leia stated things differently and things got messed up. She said that the opening scene of “The empire strikes back” was written specifically to explain the new look of Lucas Skywalker. Let’s have a look at her words.
“I was still shooting for the Star Wars when Mark got into the car accident. It was a really bad accident. Miraculously his teeth did not shatter but his nose did. He had to have some of his ear put into his nose. So they adjusted the film with this snow monster to right away in the movie scratch his face to account for his looks being different.”
The actual reason for the that first scene can never be known because only writer can explain it and she passed away some months after the movie was released.

## Mark Hamill’s before and after appearance:

There was not a dramatic change in the appearance of Mark Hamill after the plastic surgery but people still compare his before and after appearance.
