SpongeBob SquarePants is a character from the series of the same name. It is produced under an American animated comedy television. It was created by Marine Science educator and animator Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. The series chronicles the adventures and endeavors of the main character and his aquatic friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. It is one of the longest-running American cartoon series.
Cartoon logic states that a character does not age but SpongeBob’s age has been shown before. As per SpongeBob’s birthday, it is 14 July 1986 and he is considered to be 35-years-old now. Normally, in the cartoon series, the age of the character is not revealed and kept often as a mystery but SpongeBob seems to be an exception. In the episode “Sleepy Time” he is given his license. The date on the license shows as 14th July 1986. And again in the episode “No More Rides” his license is shown with the same birthday when he applied for so it can be taken as official. If air dates and events in the series correlate then that means he applied for the job at Krusty Krab at a fairly young age. Which would be illegal by US law and Mr. Krabs would have been in big trouble for child labor. Not that he would have cared since he only wants money.
Since the numbers didn’t quite match so SpongeBob’s birthday was removed from further appearances of his license or any other document that would have normally contained it. Although by looking at the facts, it can be assumed that he is old enough to live on his own, have a full-time job, own a pet snail named Gary, and his own house. But his actions are perceived to be quite immature. S for him attending Boating School is just that he is too determined and will not quit until he gets his license. However, his age is open to interpretation for all the viewers. He can be as ageless and as old as the viewer wants. And maybe, who knows, sea sponges from SpongeBob SquarePants might age differently.
