How many ounces in a half gallon?

Depending on where in the world you are, I can tell you how many ounces (oz) there are in a gallon. The US liquid gallon is smaller than the UK imperial gallon (3.785 liters) (4.546 liters). It would help if you generally kept this in mind when calculating your daily liquid intake because there is a significant difference between the two (using the UK imperial gallon conversion could result in you ingesting 3/4 liter more of a liquid).

History of Gallons:

In England, the gallon served as the foundation for methods for measuring wine and beer. These two systems employed different gallon sizes: the second used either the smaller imperial gallon or the bigger beer gallon, while the first was based on the wine gallon, the same size as a US gallon.

The Imperial gallon, close emulation of the ale gallon, was adopted by Britain in 1824. The Imperial gallon is defined as the space occupied by 10 pounds of distilled water with a density of 0.998859 g/ml weighed in the air with a density of 0.001217 g/ml against weights of density 8.136 g/l, with the barometer at the height of 30 inches and a temperature of 62 degrees Fahrenheit. Further refined this definition in 1963. The equivalent volume is 277.41945 cubic inches.
Three definitions of the gallon were in widespread use by the end of the 18th century:

  • The Winchester gallon, or corn gallon, has a volume of 268.8 cubic inches (or 4.405 L).

  • The Queen Anne’s gallon, or wine gallon, had a volume of 231 cubic inches (3.785 L).

  • The 282 cubic inch (4.622 L) ale gallon.

Types of Gallon

So finally, we have:

one imperial gallon = 4.54609 liters (exactly)
= 8 imperial pints
≈ 1.20 U.S. wet gallons
≈ 1.03 US dry gallons
= 10 pounds of pure water at 17° Celsius
1 US wet gallon = 231 cubic inches = 3 in × 7 in × 11 in (This is the gallon commonly used in the US)
= 128 U.S. fl. oz.
= 8 US wet pints
= 1⁄42 of a US oil barrel
= 3.785411784 litres (exactly)
≈ 0.83 imperial gallons
≈ 0.86 US dry gallons
≈ 8.33 pounds of pure water at room temperature
1 US dry gallon = 268.8025 cubic inches (Occasionally used in the US.)
= 8 US dry pints
= 1⁄8 of a US bushel
= 4.40488377086 litres (exactly)
≈ 0.97 imperial gallons
≈ 1.16 U.S. wet gallons

Ounce
The Ounce is derived from the British measurement system and is used to measure various weight, mass, and volume units.
A common avoirdupois pound equals 116 of a common avoirdupois ounce or approximately 28.3 g. In the United States, it is mostly used to measure packaged meals and food portions, mail items, cloth and paper area density, boxing gloves, and other objects.
In addition to the widely used avoirdupois ounce, numerous more kinds of ounces are used globally:
Gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium, and other precious metals are all measured in forty ounces, weighing 31.1034768 grams. The ounce force is a unit of measurement for weight or force. A unit of volume is the fluid Ounce.

Measures in a Gallon

According to the discussion we had above, there are two different estimates of how many ounces there are in a gallon:
US-style gallons are equal to 128 fluid ounces (US, Fluid)
In the UK, a gallon equals 153.7 fluid ounces (UK, Fluid)

In Ounces per Half Gallon

We must divide the figures mentioned above by 2 to determine the number of ounces in a half gallon. Consequently, we will have the following two values:
US half-gallon equals 64 fluid ounces. Ounces (US, Fluid)
Fluid half-gallon (UK) = 76.85 fluid ounces Ounces (UK, Fluid)
