To wash the batik, remove the paint piece after 224 hours and run it under cold water to remove the loose paint. Continue rinsing the item until the water is clear, which can sometimes take up to 20 minutes. Then remove the rubber bands from the fabric and hold it under hot water for about 5 minutes.
- Rinse the shirt with cold water from a sink or pipe.
- Fill a tub or sink with clean, warm water to set the remaining paint so it doesn't bleed.
- Put the tied shirt in the tub or pool and let it soak for 10-15 minutes.
- Gently wash the shirt with your hands.
In fact, it’s better to leave the paint on for a day or two than to remove it after at least six to eight hours. If the dye that has already reacted is transferred when the fabric has dissolved, it cannot adhere to the fabric and can therefore be removed by washing in very hot water.

Today tie dye is making a comeback and with a simple microwave you can exponentially speed up the drying process. Wrap or cover the tied garment in plastic to prevent moisture and steam from escaping. Put the garment in the microwave. Microwave the garment on high power for 1-3 minutes.
Machine wash the binding in cold water. Add 1/2 cup of table salt to the wash cycle and 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to further define the shades.
So, in rare cases, more of your color will fade if you use hot water to mix the dye, rather than hot as suggested. Cold water is a problem with some colors. Because of this, some people have faded colors while singing in the winter or in an air-conditioned room in the summer.
As with hand washing, bound fabrics must first be washed in cold water. This allows loose paint to wash off slowly so the fabric doesn’t lose too much paint at once.
To reveal the color of bound substances after killing, soak them in a mixture of vinegar, salt and water. Start by mixing 2 cups of vinegar and 1 teaspoon of salt in a bucket with enough cold water to set the substance.
Put the binding in the washing machine IF YOU DON’T WANT TO DYE ANYTHING and wash the fabric with soap as usual. If you have more than one tie to wash, it’s okay to use them together. After washing, the fabric is ready for use and can be washed and dried with normal clothing.
