## Prevention of Ear Piercing

To avoid infection, the first step is to have a professional pierce your ear rather than piercing it yourself.

- Needles are preferable to piercing guns for non-earlobe piercings. Both piercing methods require the same level of hygiene and follow-up care.

- The piercer’s post-piercing instructions must be followed to the letter. Once or twice a day, flush the ears with water that is sterile and disinfected.

- Avoid tampering with the earring, and keep it out of the way. Make sure it doesn’t get caught in your clothing while you’re getting ready.

- To prevent further damage to the ear, some people choose to sleep on their stomachs or backs while their injury heals.
