If cracks appear in the eaves area, they are most likely due to aging and settling. If they are in the center of the roof and consist of multiple cracks, wide and long, then they are of more concern and should be examined by an experienced civil engineer or home builder.
If your cracks are more than 1/16 inch wide, they are a sign of structural problems. Matching Vertical Cracks: Matching vertical cracks are a sign of severe structural damage. They usually run along a ceiling along the wall.
