Tech companies have made it simpler to send and receive money instantly via a smartphone as more consumers embrace the ease of cashlessness. One of these businesses, Cash App, offers several unique features compared to other money transfer choices, such as stock investment, extra savings with “cash boosts,” and bitcoin buying and selling.

Cash App, and how does it work?

Cash App is a Square Inc. peer-to-peer money transfer service that allows users to send and receive money.

This tool can help you pay your roommates’ utility bills, reimburse friends for coffee, divide the cost of a trip, or complete any other money-sending job with other Cash App users. Cash App works the same as a bank account in that it provides users with a debit card, dubbed a “Cash Card,” that they may use to make purchases with the monies in their Cash App account. Users can also invest in stocks and buy and sell bitcoin through the program.

How do I add money to my Cash App account?

You add money to Cash App by going to the Banking page and entering the amount of money you want to contribute from your associated bank account.

How do I use Cash App to transfer and receive money?

To begin, you’ll need an external bank account to fund your Cash App account and a location to withdraw your Cash App funds. Then, on your smartphone, you’ll download the Cash App. You’ll be guided through the enrolling process, which includes creating a user account and linking at least one bank account. You’ll be able to send money to other Cash App users and transfer money from your Cash App account to your bank account that bank account. This is comparable to services like Venmo and PayPal, which allow you to send money by linking a bank account; you can also keep any received dollars in the app.

How to send payments using the Cash app

  • Open the Cash App mobile app to send a payment.
  • Fill in the amount you’d like to send
  • Select “Pay.”
  • Fill in the email address, phone number, or “$Hashtag” (another person’s app username).
  • Fill in the details of the money you’re sending.
  • Select “Pay.”
  • Tap the “Activity” button to see the received payment details. On the “My Cash” button, which displays a rolling tally of your deposited dollars.

Cash App’s Advantages

  • There are no charges for basic services. Cash App does not charge monthly fees, fees to send money or foreign transaction costs.

  • It also comes with a free debit card. Users can use their “Cash Card” to make purchases and withdraw funds from their Cash App account. Sutton Bank issued the card tied to a user’s Cash App account. It’s not linked to a personal bank account or a different debit card.

  • If you set up direct deposit, you’ll get free ATM withdrawals. Otherwise, using an ATM with a Cash Card costs $2.

  • When you use your debit card, “cash boosts” assist you in saving money. Users using the Cash Card can select a specific “boost” on their account to save money on a particular vendor’s purchase (for example, 10 percent off an order with DoorDash). You can only have one boost active at a time, but you can switch boosts as often as you like.

  • The ability to make investments. Users can buy shares in certain companies using Cash App with as little or as much money as they choose to invest. Stocks can be acquired using the funds in your Cash App account; if there are insufficient funds in your Cash App account, I will deduct the remaining amount from your associated bank account.

  • Bitcoin-friendly (but with fees). Users of the Cash App can buy and sell bitcoin. Still, there are two types of payments: a service fee for each transaction and an additional cost based on price fluctuation across U.S. exchanges, depending on market activity.

Things to consider about Cash App

1- Your money isn’t covered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Although the Cash App’s functionality resembles that of a bank, a significant difference exists between the app and a legitimate, bank-chartered financial organization. If your bank fails unexpectedly, your funds would be covered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), normally up to $250,000. Even though Sutton Bank is FDIC-insured, clients’ funds in the Cash App are never transferred or retained by Sutton Bank and thus are not covered by FDIC protection.

2- Using a credit card incurs a charge. Cash App costs 3% of the transaction to send money with a linked credit card. This is a regular price compared to other money transfer applications; Venmo, for example, charges 3% to send using a linked credit card. To avoid paying this fee, send money using your linked bank account in your Cash App account.

3- The Cash Card has a limit on how much you can spend. Your Cash Card has a maximum spending limit of $7,000 per transaction, daily and weekly. The maximum amount per month that you can pay is $25,000.

4- The Cash Card has withdrawal restrictions. A maximum of $1,000 per transaction, $1,000 per day, and $1,000 per week can be withdrawn from an ATM or retail register cash-back transaction.
