My solution for polished wheels
Etch the aluminum with a lot of pure ammonia (the VA will damage the paint) and rub it generously with a nice ScotchBrite pad. This leaves a dull, dull look that absorbs color well. Use a platinum metallic paint or something similar to give the fabric an aluminum look, but without dazzling.
