Medium brown color when mixed, Bondo Wood Putty can be stained and painted, making it perfect for almost any wood surface inside or outside the home. Because it is a two-component wood filler, Bondo Wood Putty does not shrink or harden quickly. This product can also be used to seal damaged wood before it rots.
How to use wood repair bondo
- Scrape as much of the crumbled and melted wood as possible. Let it dry.
- Fill the freezer bag with the Bondo mixture, cut a corner of the bag and use it to push the Bondo into tight spaces.
- Paint the repair twice with your favorite paint and you are good to go.
Waterproof Wood Cladding I used this product to easily repair holes and cracks in the exterior cladding. Not all wood plasters are suitable for outdoor use. For example, water-based sealants can fail when exposed to excessive moisture, even if they have been primed and painted.

Two-part epoxy is one of the best ways to repair large holes. Moldings, window sills, floors, baseboards or wood that is damaged or with large holes can be repaired with epoxy. The two parts mix like a paste and can be shaped before or after drying.
Bondo is only recommended to fill the body to perfection, it should only be 1/6 to 1/4 inch and one inch thick.
Not only can you repair minor damage, but the strength of this triple putty allows you to rebuild rotten or missing pieces of wood and complete repairs in under 30 minutes.
Clean and sand or scrape the surface to prepare it for filling - it won’t stick to slippery, dirty or oily surfaces. Usually if the paint sticks, Bondo will too. Conversely, if there is an area you don’t want Bondo to stick to, use a release agent (see Tools and materials) or use duct tape or wax paper.
How to fix a crack in a wooden surface
Wood putty differs from wood putty in that putty is usually made from sawdust or wood fiber suspended in a binder, while putty is generally a plastic such as epoxy, fiberglass or polyurethane. Also, unlike fillers, putty does not solidify. The wooden padding is not weatherproof and does not hold up outside.
Soft wood fillings (such as pine) can make putty stronger and harder than wood itself, making it quite difficult to sharpen. Be careful when applying sealant to the joint or when opening with sealant. You can always use more if it shrinks a bit as it dries.
Step 1: Purchase wooden spatulas. I used Elmer’s ProBond putty and made sure it could be painted or stained. Cut off the applicator tip and slide some sealant into the hole. Step 2: Use a putty knife to smooth it, but don’t rinse it completely off the door surface.
The lime is also excellent. Grout, on the other hand, is bad for filling nail holes and other holes in wood, as it will shrink over time and create a clod. And the wooden trowel is a terrible choice for filling in the gaps in the molding - it takes forever to apply and smooth.
