## Some real facts from TikTok about how the “For You” page reflects individual user preferences.

According to TikTok, “The system recommends content by ranking videos based on a combination of factors - from what interests you as a new user to customizing what you’re not interested in.”  
These factors include things like:

User interactions: like the videos you like or share, the accounts you follow, the comments you post, and the content you create.  
Video info: This can include details like subtitles, sounds, and hashtags.  
Device and account settings: such as your language setting, country setting and device type.  
And it doesn’t end there.

Each of these factors are individually weighted by TikTok’s For You recommendation system. This means that each For You page is completely unique to a user and their interest.

For example, TikTok explains that a strong indicator could be of interest when a user watches a lengthy video from start to finish.

This would have more weight than a weak indicator, for example if the viewer and the creator of the video are both in the same country.

From these “interest metrics”, videos are ranked on the “For You” page based on the likelihood of a user’s interest in content.

But what about the age-old question, “Do I need thousands of followers to go viral?” In short, the answer is no.

TikTok stated that a video is likely to get more views when posted from an account with more subscribers (due to the higher number of subscribers). “Neither the number of subscribers nor the fact that the account already has high performing videos are not direct factors. in the recommendation system. “”

Even if you don’t have subscribers and have never posted to TikTok before, there is still a chance your video will show up on other people’s “For You” page.
