Definition of Arrestable offense:

  1. An offence for which there is a fixed mandatory penalty or which carries a sentence of at least five years imprisonment (e.g. theft).

  2. Criminal act for which there is a fixed mandatory sentence, or an act which carries a minimum sentence (commonly of five years imprisonment). No arrest warrant is required to arrest a person who is accused or suspected of, or is about to commit, an arrestable offense.
