Before starting a cosmetic or restorative dental project using dental porcelain, you may be wondering: Is porcelain not brittle?
The answer is yes and no. While a porcelain doll or glass jar can be fragile, a porcelain knife is strong, as are porcelain restorations.
Porcelain dolls made 80 to 100 years ago or more can be very valuable. A quick scan of the auction and Buyitnow listings on eBay will find porcelain dolls worth around 5 and 10 to several thousand dollars or more, but not dolls over $ 10,000.
Currently the most expensive porcelain doll ever sold was a bisque doll, sold by Theriaults for $ 300,000 in 2014. The doll comes from a set of 100 that French sculptor Albert Marque made for Parisian couturier Jeanne Margaine LaCroix in 1916.
Check if the doll is porcelain or bisque and 1 other material. Hold the doll’s head against the teeth. If it’s hard and cold, it means it’s porcelain or biscuit. The doll’s body is usually made of another material, such as children (soft leather) or fabric.
Wash the dolls’ hair. If your doll’s hair is dirty, you can use your fingers and water to gently remove the glue from the wig. Use water and glass cleaner to clean synthetic hair and a mild detergent to clean human hair. When the wig is completely dry, you can put it back with the white glue.
