The 16.0 kg child descends from a 2.20 m high slide and hits the ground at a speed of 1.25 m per second. w Does a large amount of thermal energy come from friction during this process?

The child walks with total gravity = mgh

= 16.0 kg * 9.81 m / s; 2 * 2.20 m = 345 years

And ends with kinetic energy = ½mv 2.

= 16 * 16.0 kg * 1.25 2 m 2 / s 2 = 12.5 J

The difference in thermal energy output = 345 12.5 = 333 J
